Nadia Mourad Silva received a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology & Cell Science from the University of Florida. During this time, she became introduced to the plant sciences when she joined a research lab that investigated strawberry volatile genes for flavor enhancement. Nadia began to pursue a career in the horticultural sciences, inspired by the potential of biotechnology in agriculture to tackle global food security and sustainability. She worked for a seed company and an ornamental plant nursery before deciding to return to the University of Florida. Now, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology. She works with maize to understand how carbohydrate metabolism and partitioning affect seed quality and quantity. Nadia is passionate about science communication and mentorship. In her free time, she enjoys getting her hands dirty at a local plant company she co-founded
