I am a PhD student in Department of Agronomy in Purdue University. I got both my bachelor degree and my master degree in China, majoring in horticulture. I joined Dr. Cankui Zhang's lab since I came here and the research area of our lab is plant molecular physiology. What I have been studying is how plant vasculature is involved in responses to low minerals, e.g., phosphate. We used plantains for the vasculature specific studies because it is easy to dissect pure vasculature tissue, and we have identified a number of important genes and pathways in response to low minerals. We have been trying more efforts to establish plantains as model species for the vasculature specific studies.
