My name is Suma Basak, a post-doctoral researcher at Fort Valley State University. My research focuses on the medicinal plant alfalfa, specifically in the areas of somatic embryogenesis, plant regeneration, and transformation. Prior to my current role, I pursued my Ph.D. at Auburn University, where I investigated herbicide resistance in southern crabgrass, which is resistant to ACCase-inhibiting herbicides. During my master's at Tuskegee University, I contributed to a project entitled the genetic diversity of Miscanthus using molecular markers. Originating from Bangladesh, I completed my bachelor's degree in agriculture and pursued a master's in biotechnology at Bangladesh Agricultural University. During my master's program, I focused on indica rice transformation, where I developed a transformation protocol involving the inoculation of mature embryos with Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Overall, my academic journey and research experiences have provided me with a diverse skill set and a comprehensive understanding of plant biology and molecular techniques.
