I was introduced to the world of plant research my sophomore year of college at the Hirschi Lab in the CNRC. I was always very interested in developing crops that were tolerant to abiotic stresses such as drought and heat. Fortunately, at the Hirschi lab I got to work with a mutant that was flood and anoxia resistant. I spent my time at the Hirschi lab examining what specifically could be contributing to the anoxia and flood tolerance of the cax1 mutant. One of my main hypotheses involved the overproduction of Jasmonic acid in the cax1 mutant. However I spent the most time looking at how microRNAs play a role in abiotic stress responses, anoxia and flooding in particular.
I am a recent graduate of Rice Univeristy with BS in Evolution and Ecology.
