Will is a postdoc with the Plant-Microbe Interfaces (PMI) Team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory working with Melissa Cregger and Chris Schadt. He completed his graduate work at the University of Michigan studying how soil fungi regulate the decomposition of fine roots in forest ecosystems, and he is now working with PMI to understand the assembly and functioning of poplar microbiomes. This includes understanding temporal variability in the composition of the microbiome, how microbe-microbe interactions influence community assembly, and the role of the microbiome in conferring host stress tolerance. His long-term research interests revolve around how interactions among soil fungi influence soil carbon cycling and its response to environmental change.
