Deisiany F. Neres is a Brazilian Forest Engineer from the Federal University of Goias. She is currently pursuing a PhD. degree at the Biological Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. She has worked as forest engineer assistant in Brazil gaining experience in forest disease as well as in the characterization and selection of resistant clones for forest industry. Deisiany's primary focus is to recapitulate jasmonate signal transduction and the actions of pathogen effectors that disrupt this immune system signal in yeast so that we can rapidly evolve new pathogen defenses. Deisiany is also using bioinformatic analysis of existing genomic and transcriptomic data to identify key genes involved in auxin regulation of soybean canopy development, and abscisic acid (as well as other hormone) regulation of apple bud frost tolerance.
