Deepti M. Nambiar is currently a research associate at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Centre, UGA. Her research work is in the area of cell wall remodeling through synthetic biology approaches. She is investigating members of different enzyme families involved in catalyzing chemical modifications at precise positions on the cell wall polymers thus establishing specific domains. These domains facilitate chemical interactions between different cell wall polymers thus playing a role in the heirarchical three dimensional cell wall structure. Deepti obtained her doctoral degree from the National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi, India. Her previous research work entails the isolation, molecular and functional characterization of high affinity glucosinolate transporters (GTRs) in the Indian mustard. She developed a novel plant based transporter assay system for the functional characterization of the GTR transporters. These transporters acquire significance in context of seed glucosinolates alteration in commercial oilseed crops through targeting the source-sink pathways.
