I am Ying Liu, a final-year PhD student from Plant Breeding Department at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. My PhD project focus on the development of CRISPR/Cas9 technology to reduce glycoalkaloids in Solanum species, specifically potatoes and tomatoes. We successfully established the DNA-free genome editing method in cultivated tomato based on the protocol our lab developed for potato a few years ago, which is illustrated in details in the poster I present on this conference. My main research interests are identifying complex biosynthesis of metabolites in plants, optimization of genome editing techniques, and how to combine those to develop high-value and sustainable crops which can be beneficial for both research and industrial applications in the field of plant breeding.
