Joann Conner graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Scranton in 1991. During her undergraduate studies she discovered a passion for genetics/molecular biology and participated in undergraduate plant research with Dr. Dwyer. She received a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Cornell University in 1997, working in the Nasrallah lab and studying self-incompatibility in Brassica. She moved to the Liu lab at the University of Maryland and helped clone and characterize LEUNIG, a gene that regulates floral development in Arabidopsis. She moved to the lab of Dr. Ozias-Akins at the University of Georgia-Tifton Campus in 1998 and began apomixis research. In 2006, she was hired as a Research Scientist in the Horticulture Department at UGA and currently holds the position of Associate Research Scientist.
