Elena Shpak received a Ph.D. from Ohio University, where she studied glycosylation patterns of cell wall proteins under the guidance of Dr. Kieliszewski. In 2001 she joined the lab of Dr. Torii at the University of Washington to study the role of receptor kinases in the control of plant development. In 2006, Dr. Shpak moved to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she is currently an Associate professor. Her research program focuses on the role of ERECTA family receptor kinases (ERfs) in the morphogenesis of above-ground tissues. She is especially interested in how ERfs regulate the shoot apical meristem maintenance, promote leaf initiation, and control the shape of floral organs. Arabidopsis is used to answer these questions. You can visit her lab webpage at https://www.shpaklab.com/.
