Greensboro, North Carolina
Dr. Ayalew Ligaba-Osena is Assistant Professor of Biology at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He received his Ph. D. in Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology from Okayama University in Japan. Dr. Osena has worked at several universities including Okayama, Cornell, Delaware State prior to joining the UNCG. Dr. Osena's research has been focusing on understanding the molecular mechanisms of plant resilience to abiotic stresses including soil acidity, phosphorus deficiency, drought and salinity. He studied structure-function of membrane transporters which play a role in plant abiotic stress tolerance. His current research focuses on characterization of mineral ion transporters from underutilized crops, which have great potential for nutrition, health and food security.
