Tomo Kawashima is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. He completed his BS at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and his PhD at UCLA under the supervision of Professor Bob Goldberg, investigating plant embryo gene regulatory networks. Tomo conducted postdoctoral research at the Fred Berger group at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore and then at Gregor Mendel Institute, Austria, focusing on live-cell imaging and fertilization. The Kawashima lab at UK currently studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of fertilization and endosperm development using confocal microscopy live-cell imaging.
