Abby Tripka is a PhD student in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at the University of California San Diego. She graduated with her B.S. in biology and minor in chemistry in 2021 from the University of Central Florida. In the lab of Dr. Alexandra Jazz Dickinson at UCSD, Abby is analyzing Desorption Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Imaging (DESI-MSI) data to chemically map maize root meristems. Her central research objective is to chemically identify molecular signatures localized to the maize root stem cell niche and to understand their function. She is using chemistry-driven strategies to investigate small molecule regulators of maize root development. Her research aims to elucidate small molecule-driven mechanisms that underlie stem cell patterning, identity, and function within maize roots.
