Professor
University of Minnesota
Nathan Springer is currently a Professor in the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Minnesota. He received a PhD from the University of Minnesota in 2000 and his thesis research in Dr. Ron Phillips lab involved cloning of maize DNA methyltransferases and anueploid-induced syndomes. Nathan was a post-doctoral research in Shawn Kaeppler’s group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison working on reverse genetic analysis of maize chromatin. He joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 2003 and his research group studies the molecular basis of heritable natural variation in maize. Members of the Springer lab use classical genetics, molecular genetics and genomics to study variation in genome structure, gene expression and the epigenome. Outside of work Nathan spends time with his kids, running or enjoying nature.
