Dr. Erich Grotewold got his B.Sc.and Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following a 3-year postdoc at Cold Spring Harbor Labs, he became a Staff Investigator at the Labs. In 1998, he moved to The Ohio State University to become professor in the Dept. of Molecular Genetics. In 2011, he became Director of the Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center (ABRC), and Director of the Center for Applied Plant Sciences (CAPS). Was elected AAAS Fellow in 2009 and ASPB Fellow in 2022. In 2017, he moved to Michigan State University to become the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. In 2022 he returned to the faculty ranks. Main research areas include understanding control of plant gene expression, establishing architecture of plant gene regulatory networks, engineering plant metabolism , studying the transport of phytochemicals, and identifying cellular targets of natural products in plants and animals.
