Diane M. Beckles is a Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of California, Davis. Her research aims to discover genes that influence the postharvest quality of fruit, vegetables, and cereals, with a focus on the role of starch in horticultural crops, and the regulation of postharvest chilling injury. Her expertise ranges from biotechnology, biochemistry, and molecular physiology, to the structural and chemical analysis of starch as a biomaterial. Dr. Beckles received her BSc. in Biotechnology from the University of Sheffield (UK) with First Class Hons., and her Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (UK), followed by postdoctoral training at John Innes Center (UK), and DuPont Agricultural Biotechnology (USA).
