Daniel is a current Ph.D. student in the Forest Biotech Group at North Carolina State University, USA. His research focuses primarily on minimizing the recalcitrance of lignocellulose biomass in trees using machine learning and CRISPR gene-editing tools for a strategic engineering of wood for timber, pulp, and biofuels. He also works in protoplast CRISPR delivery and regeneration for the development of transgene-free CRISPR-edited trees. His Master's Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was focused on biotechnological approaches to confer frost tolerance in Eucalyptus trees.
