My research focuses on using plants to protect human health and restore environmental health through two main research foci. I am studying the potential of plants for removing contaminants from the environment, known as “Phytotechnology”. This project allows me to investigate physiological and molecular responses of plants exposed to specific, common environmental contaminants like PFAS and nanomaterials in order to determine their effectiveness and mechanism of action in removing these pollutants from the environment. My second research focus is in natural medicine. In particular, I am interested in investigating the anti-cancer potential of plant metabolites in cancer therapy. Currently, I am using two breast cancer cell lines to examine the antioxidative and anticancer potential of plant metabolites on cancerous cells.
