My program focuses on environmental interactions with photosynthesis, plant hydraulics, and carbohydrate translocation and allocation in woody perennial plants. Using primarily Citrus spp. we address questions associated with irradiance intensity and distribution and the effects of diseases on whole-plant carbohydrate dynamics, in contexts ranging from agricultural field production to natural forest settings. We are interested in questions of how to optimize incoming radiant energy and in the plant hydraulic and carbohydrate flux responses of plants in response to excess irradiance and to carbohydrate transport limitations.
