Gillian Zeng Michalczyk was adopted from Changsha, China, and has lived in Florida since. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, and Citrus and Horticultural Science with concentrations in biotechnology and pre-graduate studies from Florida Southern College. During her time at Florida Southern College, she completed an internship with Dr. Manjul Dutt and Dr. Janice Zale, studying Citrus phosphomannose isomerase (CsPMI) genes at the Citrus and Research Education Center. The resulting research was published in the international peer reviewed publication Horticulturae in 2022. Following the conclusion of this research, she did an internship with Dr. Christopher Vincent studying heat tolerance in Citrus. Gillian is currently a master’s student working with Dr. Christopher Vincent at the Citrus and Research Education Center/Lake Alfred along with Dr. Tripti Vashisth and Dr. William Hammond as her committee members.
