Hello! I am Anna Yaschenko, a PhD Student at North Carolina State University in the Alonso-Stepanova lab conducting research on the effect of promoter architecture on gene expression using synthetic biology methods. I came into the plant biology field with a computer science and bioinformatics background and hope to work on the application of genetic tools to improve crop traits of agricultural importance in my future career. I aim to bridge the communication of science between the bench and computational work, as well as improve the translation of proof-of-concept research to innovative consumer products. In my personal time, I love to garden, create pottery, and play video games. I hope to one day work on creating content to highlight the power of video games to engage younger audiences in science and science communication.
