Modesta Nnedinso Abugu is is a research assistant at the Horticultural Sciences Department, University of Florida. She obtained her master’s degree in the same department, and her research focused on introgressing superior flavour volatile alleles into a modern commercial tomato variety. She is one of the newly elected ASPB ambassadors, a co-founder of the ASPB-African Researchers Network and was an ASPB Conviron Scholar in 2020. She is also a fellow of the Cornell Alliance for Science communication initiative and has been involved in planning and implementing numerous outreach programs on GMOs and gene editing in both Nigeria and the US. She now assists to train and empower other people to build effective science communication strategies and grassroots campaigns.
