Dr. Nora Lapitan is a Deputy Administrator at USDA-Agricultural Research Service, where she leads the agency’s research on crop production and protection. Prior to this role, Lapitan was with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she directed research of “Feed the Future,” the U.S. government’s global food security initiative, and served as Division Chief in the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security. Previously, Lapitan was a Program Director at the National Science Foundation, where she led the Basic Research to Enable Agricultural Development program, and co-led the Plant Genome Research Program. From 1989 to 2014, Lapitan was a Professor at Colorado State University, where she led a research program to understand the genetics of economically important traits in cereal crops.
Dr. Lapitan obtained her Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Genetics from Kansas State University, and trained as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University.
