Assistant Professor

Monika Chodasiewicz did her PhD at Max Planck Institute of Plant Physiology in Potsdam Germany (2010-2014) working on low oxygen sensing mechanism in plants. Her PhD contributed significantly to the discovery of oxygen sensing mechanism in plants, which was recognized by Nobel Prize awardee Prof. Peter Ratcliffe (2019) during his Nobel lecture. In 2014, Monika started her Postdoc in the group of Prof. Lothar Willmitzer and Dr. Aleksandra Skirycz, where she worked on studying small molecule-protein interactions using novel methods in biochemistry. From that point, Monika developed her research topic that now she continues as Assistant Professor at Center for Desert Agriculture (KAUST 2020-now). Professor Chodasiewicz' s research focuses on studying stress specific components (proteins, metabolites and mRNA) of stress granules (SGs) formed under different environmental conditions and discovering the stress specific components of desert plants which make them resistant to stressful environmental conditions.
