My first contact with plant biology came as I volunteered in the Dubrovsky lab at the UNAM’s Institute of Biotechnology, studying root system architecture in Cactaceae. While pursuing my B.S. degree in molecular biology at the University of California in San Diego, I concurrently worked in the Busch lab at the Salk Institute under M. Platre, where I explored the molecular basis of nutrient sensing in A. thaliana. Using an array of confocal microscopy techniques, timelapse imaging and biochemical assays I looked at the nature of early response to nutrient variation and the interplay with hormone signaling. Using super-resolution microscopy techniques, I dissected the signaling pathway for a bifunctional receptor kinase involved at the interphase of iron-deficiency and pathogen perception.
I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory where I wish to work on evolutionary dynamics, RNA biology and bioinformatics (and plant biology, obviously).
