Yoselin Benitez-Alfonso graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of
Cordoba (Spain). She joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
at the University of Cordoba where she completed her PhD. Between 2004 and
2012, she did postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (NY, USA) and
the John Innes Centre in Norwich (UK). In 2013, she joined the Centre for Plant
Sciences, which is part of the School of Biology, Faculty of Biological Sciences at the
University of Leeds (UK). She currently holds a position as Associate Professor in
Plant Sciences and shares a commitment with promoting Diversity, Equality and
Inclusion. Research in Yoselin’s lab is currently funded by UKRI Future Leader
Fellowship and the Leverhulme Trust and focuses on dissecting the molecular and
physico-mechanical properties modulating plasmodesmata function and cell-to-cell
communication with the view to develop applications in plant biotechnology and
biomaterials.
